The simple but striking combination has now become one of the most talked-about subjects in Tamil Nadu political circles and on social media. Supporters and critics alike are offering different interpretations of his appearance.
Some people jokingly compare his outfit to that of a railway ticket collector because of the formal black coat.

Vijay’s choice of formal Western-style clothing, therefore, marks a noticeable shift from the conventional Tamil political image.
However, many believe this is only the beginning. A film producer from Hyderabad, speaking off the record, recently commented that Vijay is an actor and actors are known for experimenting with different styles.
He added that Vijay may continue to present himself in different dress codes in the future, similar to how N T Rama Rao displayed various styles during his political journey in Andhra Pradesh.
