Over the past few days, several media reports have alleged that some Telugu Desam Party leaders are reaching settlements with YSR Congress Party leaders in various districts, involving deals worth crores of rupees.
One such alleged settlement relates to the controversial Dasapalla lands in Visakhapatnam.
It is alleged that developers linked to senior YSRCP leaders continue to benefit from the project and that certain leaders in the ruling coalition are also supporting the development.
The allegations include claims that approvals for a proposed 100-foot road and Transferable Development Rights bonds worth thousands of crores could substantially benefit the present landholders and developers rather than the original claimants.
TDP leaders, who had strongly criticised the YSRCP government over the Dasapalla land issue during the previous administration, have now remained silent.
Similarly, before the 2024 Assembly elections, TDP and Jana Sena leaders made serious allegations against former Chief Secretary K S Jawahar Reddy.
They alleged that Jawahar Reddy and his associates had acquired hundreds of acres of land through benami transactions in Anandapuram and Padmanabham mandals near Visakhapatnam.
Now, the issue appears to have been quietly buried, allegedly because of an understanding between TDP and YSRCP leaders.
What is more surprising, however, is the silence of Jana Sena Party leaders.
Jana Sena leaders, including Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, had strongly criticised the alleged land irregularities involving Jawahar Reddy while they were in the opposition. However, the party has remained silent after coming to power.
Jana Sena corporator Murthy Yadav had also publicly raised the issue.
Although Jawahar Reddy reportedly threatened legal action against Murthy Yadav, no such proceedings were initiated. Critics claim that this added credibility to the allegations.
Yet, Jana Sena leaders are no longer speaking about these issues.
Pawan Kalyan had earlier claimed that he possessed extensive information through his political network while outside the government.
Therefore, critics argue that it is difficult to believe he is unaware of these developments now that he is serving as Deputy Chief Minister.
The allegations have fuelled political debate, with analysts claiming that the coalition government’s handling of these matters could create the impression that it has reached an understanding with certain elements of the previous YSRCP regime.
