The Kerala Story and The Kerala Story 2 were two films centered on alleged jihadist targeting of Hindu girls and the brutal consequences faced by them.
The first film, especially, created a huge impact across India and shocked many viewers. However, the second film did not perform well commercially.
Despite the narratives shown in these films, the people of Keralam do not appear to have developed a strong anti-Muslim sentiment.
Keralam’s population is about 57% Hindu, yet the political outcomes suggest continued support for parties and coalitions that include significant Muslim representation.
In the newly elected UDF coalition government with 102 MLAs, around 39 MLAs are Hindus, 33 are Christians, and 30 are Muslims.
Before the 2026 election, the state was ruled by the LDF government, which had 99 MLAs, of whom 67 were Hindus, 18 were Muslims, and 14 were Muslims.
This suggests that the films may not have had a major political or social impact on voting behavior in Keralam.
In fact, Muslim representation among MLAs appears to have increased in recent years, and voters also elected the UDF coalition, in which the Indian Union Muslim League is one of the major parties.
The representation of Hindus in Assembly has reduced significantly as well.
