A section of the Kapu community in Andhra Pradesh is increasingly expressing disappointment and frustration with Pawan Kalyan and the direction of Jana Sena Party after the 2024 elections.
The dissatisfaction stems from the huge expectations the community had when Jana Sena achieved a historic victory by winning all 21 seats it contested and became part of the alliance government in the state.
Many Kapus believed this victory would finally translate into meaningful political representation, cabinet positions and opportunities in governance for leaders from their community.
For decades, Kapus have carried a strong aspiration to establish their own political identity and leadership in Andhra Pradesh.
From the days of Vangaveeti Mohana Ranga until now, the feeling within the community has been that their political ambitions have remained unfulfilled.
Jana Sena’s rise was seen as a moment of hope and emotional pride for many Kapus who believed the party would become their voice in power.
However, that hope appears to have quickly turned into disappointment as many supporters feel the community has not received adequate recognition or share in governance.
Even the developments surrounding Kondidela Naga Babu, the brother of Pawan Kalyan, became a major talking point.
When Nagababu himself reportedly struggled to secure a cabinet berth and later faced political drama even over an MLC position, many Kapu leaders and supporters interpreted it as a sign that the community’s influence within the alliance government was limited. Since then, confidence among several Kapu groups appears to have weakened significantly.
Political observers also point out that in several districts, Jana Sena leaders and cadre are gradually distancing themselves from the party, although the party still retains relatively stronger support in East and West Godavari regions.
Adding to the tension are reports that industrialist Lingamaneni Ramesh may be considered for a Rajya Sabha seat through Jana Sena.
If that happens, many Kapu supporters believe it would deeply hurt the community’s sentiment, as they expect such opportunities to go to leaders representing their social base.
The issue is increasingly being framed as one of “Kapu Atma Gouravam” or community self-respect.
Criticism is also growing that Pawan Kalyan has politically invested the strength, emotions and aspirations of the Kapu community into the alliance while receiving very little in return.
Even among NRI Jana Sena groups, discussions and social media posts expressing disappointment are reportedly spreading widely.
There is now open criticism in some circles that Pawan Kalyan appears more focused on retaining his Deputy Chief Minister position and personal political stability rather than protecting the long-term interests of the Kapu community.
