Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay addressed about his choice of clothing, explaining that the black-and-white suit he has been wearing represents his commitment to honesty and simplicity.
Speaking at a public gathering in Tiruchirappalli on Monday, Vijay responded to comments questioning why he had chosen to wear a suit, emphasizing that such attire is not exclusive to people in powerful positions.
“Are we not allowed to wear a coat and suit? Is it meant only for people in positions of authority? There is nothing like that,” he said, dismissing the notion that formal attire should be associated only with those in power.
Vijay further explained that his selection of black and white was intentional, as the two colours reflect the straightforward and transparent approach he intends to maintain in public life.
“I am not wearing many colours. It is just black and white,” he said, adding that the colours symbolize clarity, openness and simplicity, values he wants people to associate with his leadership.
He also intends a pun that changing colors in public life is not his style.
He also briefly mentioned that the significance of the black colour is widely understood by the public and therefore does not require further explanation.
Vijay noted that he prefers focusing on governance and serving citizens rather than spending time responding to criticism.
He said he is known for keeping his speeches brief and avoiding unnecessary comments.
The chief minister added that many supporters encourage him to concentrate on his responsibilities, assuring him that they will handle those who continue to criticize or discuss him.
