Udhayanidhi Stalin launched a sharp and personal attack on Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay, taking the political battle beyond the Assembly floor and into private territory.
Stalin, the opposition leader in the Tamil Nadu Assembly, referred to what he called the “story of the wife looking for a husband in the Chengalpattu court,” in an apparent reference to Vijay’s wife Sangeetha Sornalingam reportedly filing a divorce petition before the Chengalpattu Family Court in December 2025, seeking legal separation after 27 years of marriage.
“It is condemnable that he insulted farmers by saying they are protesting at the instigation of opposition parties. His statement that he is telling a short story is completely against their dignity. Only Tamil Nadu knows the story of the wife looking for a husband in the Chengalpattu court. Therefore, @actorvijay, forget about it, at least for now,” Stalin posted on X, turning the political exchange into a personal attack.
The high-profile divorce case is currently before the Chengalpattu Family Court, with the next hearing scheduled for August 7, as both parties continue to go through the legal process.
Udhayanidhi’s biting post came after actor-turned-politician Vijay shared a “missing man” story in the Assembly, widely seen as an indirect reference to M K Stalin.
Earlier in the day, Vijay delivered a fiery speech in the Assembly, attacking the DMK and claiming that his government would recover public money allegedly misappropriated under the guise of “party fund collections.”

His remarks triggered strong protests from the opposition benches. Udhayanidhi raised a point of order, insisting that the Chief Minister should make such allegations only if he had evidence.
However, the Speaker refused to allow interruptions during Vijay’s speech and said the Chief Minister should be allowed to complete his reply to the Governor’s address. DMK members continued their protest and later walked out of the House.
Resuming his speech, Vijay said that unlike the previous DMK government, the TVK government would never indulge in corruption or allow anyone to “loot” the public exchequer.
Before concluding his nearly 45-minute speech, Vijay pointed to the empty opposition benches and asked Speaker JCD Prabhakar if he could make a hand gesture in the House.
“I wanted to enact this little bit in the presence of the DMK members. But they have all walked out. Can I make the gesture, with your permission?” Vijay asked.
The Speaker replied, “Why not, nothing wrong.”
A smiling Vijay then made a downward hand-slashing gesture as the treasury benches thumped their tables loudly. The moment also appeared to amuse the Speaker.
The gesture seemed to mimic former Chief Minister M K Stalin’s viral hand movement at the DMK headquarters, made on the day he finalised the alliance deal with the Congress ahead of elections. Many had interpreted that gesture as a signal that “everything is settled” or “all finished.”
Outside the Assembly, Udhayanidhi dismissed Vijay’s speech as content made for “reels.”
“TVK has turned the Assembly into a cinema theatre. They have started whistling now. Soon, ministers will play songs and dance to item songs. The Chief Minister’s speech was only for reels and social media. Reels can be made from his nearly 30-minute speech. It was scripted and very artificial. He has started acting. The Speaker is saying ‘action’ and ‘cut’. Next, they will ask for a ‘once more’ take. He is asking the Speaker’s permission for action. Next, a caravan, makeup artists and a stunt master will come here. They will turn the Assembly into a shooting spot,” Udhayanidhi said.
