Three students from Telangana were killed in a road accident in Florida, US, after the car in which they were travelling crashed into a tree in Brevard County.
One of the victims has been identified as N Rahul, a native of Navipet in Nizamabad district.
According to local reports, Rahul had moved to the US around three months ago for higher studies. He was travelling with two other students to their part-time workplace when the accident occurred.
The crash took place on Interstate 95 in the Palm Bay area of Brevard County. Reports citing the Florida Highway Patrol said the 2025 Hyundai Elantra in which they were travelling veered off the road, hit a tree and caught fire.
Two occupants died at the spot, while Rahul was shifted to a hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Rahul’s father, Haribabu, said his son had completed his MS and enrolled for a PhD at the University of South Florida. He was also looking for a job.
Haribabu said Rahul had spoken to his mother shortly before his friends arrived to pick him up for work. That turned out to be his last call home.
The identities of the other two deceased students were not immediately known.
The Telugu Association of North America is reportedly coordinating with US authorities to complete the necessary formalities and help repatriate the bodies.
In another recent incident involving an Indian-origin student in the US, 19-year-old Alli Renee Singh was killed after a car plunged off West Cliff Drive near Streamer Lane on August 13.
Singh was not driving the vehicle and became trapped after it was submerged. Rescue teams attempted to reach her, while the male driver managed to escape with minor injuries, according to reports.
