Bandi Sai Bhageerath, son of Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar, on Wednesday sought a two-day extension from the police to appear before investigators in connection with the sexual assault case registered against him involving a minor girl.
In a formal reply to the notice served on him by the Pet Basheerabad police, Bhageerath expressed his willingness to fully cooperate with the ongoing investigation.
He was supposed to appear before the police on Wednesday.
He said he was “unequivocally willing” to assist the investigating authorities and extend all necessary cooperation in the case.
However, he informed the police that he was unable to appear on the scheduled date due to the short notice period and certain personal inconveniences on May 13.
Bhageerath requested the police to grant him a short extension of two days so that he could gather relevant documents, materials and information that may assist the investigation.
He also maintained that the allegations made against him and his family were “false”.
“I reiterate my unconditional willingness to join the investigation and undertake to appear before the undersigned officer on a date so accommodated,” the letter stated.
He further urged the police to consider his request in the interest of ensuring a “fair and effective investigation”.
