Prime Minister Narendra Modi took a light-hearted political swipe at Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, saying the state would benefit more by working closely with the Centre.
Addressing a public meeting in Telangana on Sunday after launching several development projects, Modi said the state could grow faster if it aligned with the Union Government instead of remaining politically opposed to it.
In a witty remark aimed at Revanth Reddy, Modi said, “I would like to tell Revanth Reddy that whatever the Government of India has given to Gujarat in 10 years of rule, I am ready to give to you. But based on my knowledge, as soon as I do that, what you are currently receiving will be halved. You won’t be able to reach where you want to go. So it is better that you ally with me only.”
The Prime Minister’s comments drew attention as they mixed political humour with a development pitch. He also highlighted major infrastructure, railway and textile projects being taken up in Telangana with support from the Centre.
Modi’s remarks are being seen as an attempt to underline the importance of Centre-state cooperation, while also taking a subtle dig at the Congress-led Telangana government.
