The father of Sumanth, who previously served as Officer on Special Duty (OSD) to former Telangana minister Konda Surekha, allegedly attempted suicide by consuming sleeping pills and is undergoing treatment at a private hospital.
According to family members, Sumanth’s father, Nara Subrahmanyeswara Rao, allegedly consumed around 40 sleeping pills on Wednesday night in an apparent suicide attempt.
Family members reportedly found him unconscious in the early hours of Thursday and immediately shifted him to a private hospital.
His condition is said to be critical, and doctors have reportedly placed him on ventilator support while providing treatment.
Family members said Subrahmanyeswara Rao had been under severe mental stress in recent times due to the controversies surrounding his son Sumanth and the criminal cases registered against him.
However, the exact circumstances and reasons behind the alleged suicide attempt have not yet been officially established. An official statement from the hospital regarding his health condition is also awaited.
Sumanth has been facing allegations in connection with a case involving an alleged attack on a real estate businessman in Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad.
According to the allegations in the case, Sumanth and others allegedly attacked a real estate businessman identified as Harikrishna with iron rods and sticks and allegedly demanded Rs 10 crore.
Police registered cases, including charges related to attempted murder and extortion, in connection with the incident.
Sumanth had reportedly remained untraceable after the case was registered. He later obtained anticipatory bail from a Nampally court. Following the court’s order, Sumanth appeared before the Jubilee Hills police on Wednesday for questioning.
Police officials said he was cooperating with the investigation. Three of his alleged associates have already been arrested in connection with the case.
Meanwhile, family members said Subrahmanyeswara Rao had been deeply worried about his son’s future because of the controversies, criminal allegations and cases against him.
Subrahmanyeswara Rao had worked in the Electricity Department. He reportedly took voluntary retirement around six months before his scheduled retirement and had subsequently been living with his family.
