A YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) leader has triggered a political storm after describing Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy as a “Zomato delivery boy” who could not even read a government order properly.
During a live television debate, YSRCP official spokesperson Nagarjuna Yadav referred to Revanth Reddy in highly disparaging terms and allegedly compared him to a “Zomato delivery boy.”
He also claimed that the Chief Minister could not properly read a government order and questioned his political competence, repeatedly referring to him in disrespectful singular terms.
The programme’s anchor intervened several times, urging the YSRCP spokesperson to maintain decorum and address the Chief Minister respectfully.
Despite the warnings, Nagarjuna Yadav continued his criticism and sarcastically remarked that he owed an apology to actual Zomato delivery personnel for comparing them with Revanth Reddy.
The comments quickly triggered a political controversy, with social media witnessing sharp reactions from supporters of various parties.
One section of users condemned the remarks, arguing that, irrespective of political differences, using abusive language against a sitting Chief Minister undermines democratic values and lowers the standard of political discourse.
They maintained that freedom of expression does not justify personal abuse and demanded strict action against the YSRCP leader.
Several users also warned that such language could politically damage the YSR Congress Party itself.
Another section of social media users defended the YSRCP spokesperson, arguing that leaders from various parties had previously used equally harsh language against their political opponents.
They questioned why similar outrage was not expressed when YSRCP president Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy faced personal attacks from rival parties.
Some also referred to past remarks by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, who had described the YSRCP as a “goddali party.”
They further recalled instances in which Revanth Reddy himself had used strong language against former Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao.
However, many observers argued that political leaders, particularly those holding constitutional positions, should maintain civility in public discourse and avoid crossing the limits of acceptable political criticism.
