Trainee Indian Police Service officer M. Uday Krishna Reddy, who was booked and suspended in connection with a sexual harassment case filed by a fellow trainee IPS officer at the National Police Academy in Hyderabad earlier this month, has been taken into custody by the Telangana police.
Rajendranagar Deputy Commissioner of Police S. Srinivas told reporters that Uday Krishna Reddy was detained near Miryalaguda in Nalgonda district and shifted to Attapur police station for questioning as part of the investigation.
The DCP said a decision on whether to formally arrest the accused or release him after issuing notices for further questioning would depend on the legal provisions under which the case was registered.
He acknowledged that several allegations had been made against Uday Krishna Reddy and said further details would be revealed at an appropriate stage of the investigation.
The case was registered by Attapur police on July 19 after a woman trainee IPS officer alleged that Uday Krishna Reddy had sexually harassed her while they were undergoing training at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy on the outskirts of Hyderabad.
The complainant also alleged that he had shared her private videos with her husband, causing her severe personal distress.
Based on her complaint, police registered a case against the trainee officer under multiple provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
During the investigation, police attempted to serve notices at two addresses provided by the accused but were unable to trace him.
His mobile phone was also found switched off, prompting investigators to form four special teams to locate him.
