A bizarre controversy has erupted in Telangana after a police patrol motorcycle was allegedly used for a commercial Rapido bike-taxi ride, with a video of the incident going viral on social media.
The incident reportedly took place in Warangal after a passenger booked a Rapido ride from Ambedkar Junction to Subedari for Rs 26.
To his surprise, the rider allegedly arrived on a police motorcycle bearing registration number TS 09 PC 2795. The vehicle was reportedly attached to the Enumamula police station.
When the passenger questioned him about using a police vehicle for a private ride, the rider allegedly claimed that the motorcycle had been given to him by a friend who was a police constable.
The passenger recorded the interaction, and the video was later widely shared on social media, raising serious questions over the alleged misuse of government property.
The motorcycle is said to be one of the Blue Colt vehicles used by the police for patrolling, emergency response and quickly reaching crime scenes.
Its alleged use for a commercial bike-taxi service has therefore sparked concerns over accountability and the proper use of official resources.
Enumamula Circle Inspector J. Suresh reportedly confirmed that the motorcycle belonged to the police station and had been assigned to Sub-Inspector Shankar. A person identified as Guvva Siddharth was allegedly using the vehicle for Rapido services.
Following the incident, the Circle Inspector said the sub-inspector had been warned.
He also prepared a report recommending disciplinary action against SI Shankar and forwarded it to the Warangal Commissioner of Police.
Senior police officials are expected to examine the viral video, vehicle records and the circumstances surrounding the incident before deciding on further action.
The allegations have triggered demands for a thorough inquiry into how a government vehicle was allegedly made available for commercial use and whether any police personnel facilitated the arrangement.
