Serving in Telangana appears to be the overwhelming preference of the IAS officers of the united Andhra Pradesh cadre.
This became clear on Wednesday with the chief secretaries of the two states together receiving requests from 47 of the total 294 IAS officers wanting to change their cadre. And of them, 33 officers provisionally allotted to Andhra Pradesh have opted for Telangana.
Here are three reasons being given by IAS officers allotted to Andhra Pradesh but who have requested to be assigned to Telangana:
- We are well settled in Hyderabad and relocation will disturb our family and children’s education
- The new capital region will not have any active social life
- We have become accustomed to the administration styles of the likes of YSR, Rossaiah and Kiran Kumar Reddy. We cannot adapt to Chandrababu’s style of functioning which is marked by too many review meetings and ‘limited autonomy’. Too many review meetings leave us little room to concentrate on real work.
The AP government would do well to take cognizance of these factors and try and work out a compromise or else some really promising IAS officers would end up getting posted to Telangana.
