It is very saddening to see reputed news publications coming up with this idea to seek donations from public, for building a capital. We are not facing a vis major act like earthquake or cyclone, to raise funds in this fashion.
One can’t deny the need for a new capital. But the reason for throwing Andhra into this chaotic state is the Congress party while it was in the Centre. BJP supported the bill. So it is their responsibility now to build the capital as well.
People elected CBN as he promised that he will negotiate with centre for enough support from all corners. He vowed that he knows how to build a capital from scratch with all available resources. People elected Modi because Venkaiah Naidu promised only BJP can help provide necessary SOPs for the new state. People did trust BJP/TDP combo in this regards and gave them thumping victory.
So it is advisable to wait for centre’s reaction on this issue, before we respond.
Instead of lobbying to achieve clarity on the funding from centre, ABN is asking people to donate. I believe they are setting a very wrong trend. What are they trying to achieve by this act? Public sympathy? Public appreciation for their great efforts? Or rewards from the government for converting the people sympathy into funds?
Cost of capital can reach the figure of 5 lakh crores. Maximum people can afford to give is 100 crores through donations. That is nothing in front of the huge costs involved to build a capital.
So it is wise to let the government do the job of building capital while people can donate their spare money to improve their family, friends and neighbourhood.
